The Bone Marrow Transplant Center provides highly advanced treatment for
both cancer and blood disorders, utilizing the latest technologies and the
most highly trained professional support staff. The Florida Hospital
Cancer Institute has Orlando's first and only comprehensive adult and
pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program. The program includes the
Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (inpatient facility), the Bone Marrow
Transplant Clinic
(outpatient facility), and the Stem Cell Processing Laboratory. Since
1996, the program has performed over 200 autologous (self-donation) and
allogeneic (related donor) blood and marrow transplants.

The BMT program provides consultation for
transplant candidates, along with peripheral blood stem cell collections
and transplants, as well as autologous (self-donation) and allogenic
(related donor) stem cell transplants for numerous disease types. These
include aplastic anemia, leukemias (acute and chronic), lymphomas,
multiple myeloma, ovarian and breast cancers, neuroblastoma, germ cell
tumors, and bone marrow failure syndromes. |

Under the direction of
Dr. John Edwards, the Bone Marrow
Transplant Center also specializes in new BMT protocols, such as
non-ablative mini-HLA matched allogenic stem cell transplantation for
hematologic malignancies. The Bone Marrow Transplant Center is supported
on site by the Stem Cell Processing Laboratory (for processing,
cryopreservation and storage of collected marrow and stem cells).
